JS-301A Automotive Smoke Machine, EVAP Leak Detector with Handle

Very good smoke machine, actually puts out more smoke than the one we had at the dealership. Never expected it to use mineral oil for smoke fluid, but it works fantastic!

This is fantastic. Although I have not utilized it for automotive purposes yet, I was able to verify that the airflow through my adapted radon mitigation system is as I'd like it to be. I had concerns that there might be some unsealed space close to a pipeline in my basements, however this equipment enabled me to make certain that there is not any suction. Although it might be a bit excessive for that use, I believe a match is the way to go, therefore this machine served this extra function well. Even the most elusive leaks are readily apparent when the machine's dense, visible smoke is injected into the intake system. Performance and durability combine to make it a vital tool for any vehicle diagnostic toolbox. This machine has exceeded my expectations on both occasions that I have used it. generates a lot of smoke. I finally located an Evac leak that I had been searching for months.

This is great. As far as automotive purposes, I haven't used it yet, but I was able to confirm airflow is as I want it through my retrofitted radon mitigation system. I had been concerned that there was some unsealed area near a half-buried pipe in my basement, but I was able to determine for sure that there is no pre-slab sucking with this machine. It may be a bit overkill for that application, but I think a match is way under-kill, so this machine worked nicely for this additional purpose.

This comes with a bunch of plugs, which reek of the type of cheap rubber that comes with cheap tools. But that is an extra, and those pieces are good for what they are. I am happy that the box comes with a handle built in, because you really don't want to separate this tool from all its accessories, so the box sort of makes a convenient storage case for itself.

I buy so much stuff that looks like junk and I have to hope it isn't. This unit was impressive right out of the box. From the quality clamps on the power cord to the real rubber plugs and connectors, this looks well built. Added 10 ml of baby oil (mineral oil) and the unit created lots of dense smoke for leak detection tasks. Definitely recommended.

In the product pictures for the smoke machine it says to add tobacco oil, which is not included. However the instructions do say you can use common mineral oil. So that is what I tried and it worked, making a good amount of smoke, certainly enough for a leak test. This works basically the same way as a fog machine, just not as fun! One common source of vehicle vacuum leaks is actually the top engine oil cap. Something to keep in mind if you are searching for a leak.
